DearElder.com letter #8

Jacob!

You know it!  It's that time to get a letter from your big bro.  As far as writing back to me, all I want is a small word of acknowledgement that you are getting these letters.  Just forward the letter you send to mom to me.

Nothing big has happened at all.  I have no sports to report so there goes about 1/3 of your letter right there.

The Fawcetts are coming to California to go to Disneyland at the end of this month.  Mom and I are for sure going, don't know about Dad yet.  Before you get your panties in a wad, I am paying for my own ticket, which is coming to about $200.  Definitely a pretty penny.  We're going to both parks.  Mom's paying for the hotel and her ticket.  Also, it's going to be their Mom and Dad, Thomas, Kathrine, and Aryn.  So not all the Fawcetts.

Also, we are going to go to Brittney Maynard's wedding at the end of July.  So, it'll be a nice family reunion (unfortunately, without you).  Mom was afraid that work conferences were going to get in the way, but they don't.  I was just told today that we'll be up in utah for about a week.

Remind  me next time we go to the DMV, to set an appointment.  We went today for Sarah's car, and we were in and out in about 20 minutes.  Much better than the hour or so we stayed there.

Still have my mind on getting a Ukulele.  You know, I'm going through one of those impulsive buying obsessions, that I usually go through when I want something.

I watched Pepper for a few hours today while the Knudsens were away and Braden was at work.  Sister Zylstra was showing their house a few times.  Hopefully it gets sold.  I only wish the best for the Knudsens in their journey.

Something I learned today is things that are done in secret (anonymously) for the benefit of others is always the best feeling.  I asked myself, "do i do things to be SEEN or REWARDED of Men? (3 Nephi 13:2-4)  We (and especially I) do many things to be rewarded of men, and not for the good of mankind (or our companion).  Service is selfless.  Take something you see wrong with the world, and improve it anonymously.  You'll feel the greatest satisfaction when you do so.

I like the scripture that says when we fast we should "Anoint [our] head[s] and wash [our] face." (3 Nephi 13:17).  It's the easy route, announcing to the world that you are fasting.  But this doesn't just apply to fasting.  It applies to all the things that are hard to do.  Missionary work being one of those hard things.  But anoint your head and wash your face Jacob, God will make it easy for you.

Anyways, enough ranting.

I'm still trying to think of some epic saying to tell you at the end of your letters.  Maybe you can help me, haha.

Love you man. REPRESENT!

John
