1/21 Letter #52

Hey man!

As I'm writing, I searched Roger and I'm seeing that he's playing live right now against a guy named Fucsovics in the round of 16. It barely started, so it's hard to tell who is going to win. But I'll update you when I found out. I haven't really been watching the first week of the Australian Open, but I'll probably get way into it as it comes to a close at the end of this week...and especially if the finalists are Roger and/or Rafa.

It's been a fun, crazy, and super busy week. The craziness has been in the last four days or so. Why? This weekend was our Utah Open House for our wedding. The craziness was that Utah had their first Utah snow storm since the beginning of winter of 2017/2018. Our open house was on a Saturday, and that whole night before it just poured...some people even getting a foot of snow. That said, it didn't stop all people from coming. Andrea Palmer brought Sarah, even though she said she probably wouldn't come because of the snow. I was so happy, it almost made me cry. Sarah and Andrea were 2 of the 3 people that came for me and not Sarah, my wife. The other person was Aunt Linda Aune, from Sandy. She had to apologize because Arnie was sick with pneumonia, and Corrinn had something going on that couldn't be missed. It was so great having those people show up for me. Sarah, on the other hand, had probably tenfold as many people as me. It didn't bother me because I was able to meet many new people, like a previous Chicago Illinois mission president who also works as a sealer for the Payson Temple...and a lot of other people. Although, from previous trips up to Utah, I did know a good amount of Sarah's friends and had pleasant conversations with them.

All in all, it was a grand old time. Afterwards, we were treated by two of Sarah's friends at Olive Garden.

We stayed with Granny on the way up and on the way down. We left extremely late on Thursday evening because of a physical we got at Kaiser Permanente (our new medical insurance provider). It was late because they had us run labs for ever. They gave me a tetanus and flu shot. We left so late that we didn't arrive in Hurricane until 1am utah time. Granny was sleeping on the recliner when we got there. We quickly went to sleep right after. I tried the driving at night, but I just couldn't handle it after a while because of my mental capacity. I couldn't do it also because it was just too focused on driving with red headlights in front of you and using headlights to make sure I followed the white dashed line. It was just too much after a while. So I had Sarah drive most of the way up, me falling asleep every now and again, etc.

I did all the driving from Hurricane to Provo and on the way back from Provo to Hurricane. That said, I did not drive in the snow at all. I mean, I can do it, but I decided to let Sarah help me out by driving carefully all over a snowy provo. And she did a good job. I wasn't scared one bit while I was with her. We were going to stay up with Aunt Linda, but since Corrinn was in town, she didn't have any room for us. So, our back up plan was to stay with Sarah's cousin Lynda and Victor, who have had us before at their house.

We beat the storm coming up. We had arranged to meet with Sarah. We told her we could get some pizza. Well, Sarah called us and asked Sarah and I to get her some shin guards and soccer socks, because she had just joined an intramural soccer team. There wasn't anybody at the Big 5 we went to so we got excellent service. We stopped by Costco after we called in an order. It was fun being with Sarah in the evening, just talking about everything going on in her life. She's an awesome girl.

I'm at Granny's right now, Sunday, and Uncle Dana and Aunt Susan came by for dinner. Aunt Kristen, Kent, Aryn, and Jade and Zayne also made it. We had a nice time talking with them as well.

My week has been good, in addition to a great trip that will end tomorrow morning.

I bet you are excited as the whole rest of the LDS church with the announcement of Russell M. Nelson as President of the church with Dallin H. Oaks as his first counselor and Henry B. Eyring as second counselor. I think the church is in good hands. I'm anxious to see who the new apostles are going to be. I think we are in need of 2 new ones. I'm wondering if I should do the same thing as I did last time and predict in tweet who I think the next ones will be. I did get 1 out of 3 right...I'm pretty sure it was Ronald A. Rasband.

I can't think of any funny things in class that happened. Except, one girl was singing We are Never Getting Back Together at her desk and I joined her in singing and she kept on singing afterwards.

Now that I'm almost done, I'll check roger's score. Roger is winning 6-4, and they are in the second set 4-4. Hopefully Roger pulls it off. I don't think he's lost a set in a long time.

Love you man. Drop me a line.

John
