1/14 Letter #51

Hey Jacob!

I know, I know...tomorrow starts the beginning of the round of 128 of the Australian Open. I saw that Roger plays at midnight our time on Tuesday. I wish I could watch it and other ensuing games, and I just may watch some but life is so hectic around here that I need to get my beauty sleep. I'll do my best to update you on at least Roger, and probably also the news from Rafa and Andy and Djokovic. I agree with you, though, I hope Roger gets the title. It'll be something for sure to write you about.

Life here has been good. It rained on Monday and Tuesday. I started work this week and got everyday. (I need to get everyday now that I am married). Got monday off, and I will get tomorrow off as well because of MLKJ day. Also, I won't be able to work on Friday because Sarah and I are travelling to Utah starting Thursday afternoon for our Open House in Spanish Fork.

Week two of being married has been pretty great. We rented the movie Singin' in the Rain from the Bloomington Branch Library and finished watching it today. I loved the line "I can't stand him." She really liked the movie. We went to Newport Beach today because a professional BYU/UC Irvine college essay reader was giving a fireside on those specifics, and since I will be writing essays soon, we both thought it was good that I attend the fireside. BYU Alumni sent the email, and dad forwarded me the email as if to spark an interest in going. The fireside was pretty informative. I'm glad I went, and that I could go with Sarah made it even better.

One funny thing from this week is I was teaching a first grade classroom. Randomly, in the middle of the day, they started singing Christmas songs with Gusto. They even sang all twelve verses of The 12 Days of Christmas. Really, one girl knew all the verses, so she prompted everyone in singing all 12 verses. It was crazy. But cool, too.

Sarah and I went to the gym a couple times last week, as part of our goals, and we will go to the gym several times this week. We did treadmill and the elliptical and some weight machines. We even did Miguel's Monday, yum.

El Obispo of the Juniper ward invited us to a Juniper Ward temple day on Saturday. It was a whole day affair, but it was good. We got there when the sun was out and left in darkness. I did one initiatory and together we participated in several sealings. Then we did an endowment in Spanish with English subtitles. It was pretty fun. We've made a goal to go every week. We've decided to dedicate our Wednesday's to going, but since we were invited to this event, we changed it for this week. The session and the rest of the temple was full. I sat with the Parisi's and Brother Nieves and Sarah and I did the prayer circle. It was a good experience. I was thinking that now that I am married, the temple workers can choose us to be witness couple now. I look forward to it.

We had a pretty good day in our ward today, the Spanish ward. They announced us as new members of the ward and had us stand up and everything. The Mondragon's were all excited to have us in the ward. Nahomi and Josh were asking about you. I also made friends with some of the members and the teachers and deacons. I also met Obispo's son Isaac, who is a pretty swell dude. He showed us around the church to make sure we got to right places. We still don't have callings yet. Looking forward to that, except, we won't be in church next Sunday because of our Open House, and the following week is a regional stake conference. So, we've done our attendance for the month of January.

We're looking forward to our Open House. Granny and Dana for sure will be there, along with a bunch of Sarah's friend. We're having brownies and ice cream.

Well, I hope you are doing well, my brother. I love you lots. You are a great inspiration to me!

I love you.

John
