10/31 Halloween and Stranger Things

Halloween, was actually pretty fun, for once, (not that previous Halloweens were that bad, but I had Halloween with a class that celebrated it). We carved pumpkins, four of them. They were Jack Skellington's face, his tie, Zero the dog, and Sally's face. It was really fun. I used my knife that I use for eating to cut the not so fine edges and Mrs. Ramos and Mrs. Yusef did the finer edges with a little electric knife. They turned out way nice and it was fun working with the kids to do it, including helping Freddie out with the knife on Jack's head.

Before school, I had a chat with Michael about cussing. We promised that he wouldn't cuss at all today and he was true to his word, as far as I could tell. Also, Mrs. Ramos made him not take out any balls, like that helped. In the morning the whole school paraded about in their costumes while parents onlooked. They even had a costume contest. Michael Jackson, the Leto Joker, and a Lego man won. What was really cool as well was that Mrs. Santos, Mrs. Williford, and Mr. Junio dressed up as golden sports trophies. It was actually quite creative.

There was only one hiccup in today's class. Pedro had a terrible melt down. He felt like everyone was against him so he took his How to Train a Dragon mask and banged it against everything until it was broken in smithereens. We called Dr. Jones and Mrs. Pedroza to come and talk to him, the principals. They came and after we had a better day with him.

At the end of the day we had a Halloween party in class. Parents brought chips and cupcakes and drinks, and we watched Nightmare Before Christmas. The end of the day was definitely a lot nicer. And it was good to have another aide with me to the end of the day, although, Mrs. Ramos was with us longer at the end.

I went to a block party with Sarah after she took Keke and Sharlaunna home. It was nice to eat some good food and get to know some of the people that she lives with on the block. Sarah dressed up as a runner and I followed suit, although, you couldn't see my shorts on top of my pants because it was dark blue on dark blue. Then we went to Barnes and Noble to watch an episode of Stranger Things on my request. Before she came I had downloaded an episode of the New season to watch. I guess I had told Sarah that I wouldn't watch without her. She wasn't upset, just a bit incredulous. It was good. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the season.
