Hey Jacob,
I'll send you the name of the Wimbledon winner once I finally know it. Fortunately, for me anyways, I haven't been spoiled the winner, so I'll get to watch it tomorrow with Sarah. She actually watched the Nadal vs. Djokovic semifinal match with me on Friday night before date night. The match was suspended because of 11pm curfew and also because the first seminfinal, Isner vs. Anderson took the second longest time in Championship history, a record breaking 6 hours and 36 minutes, in which time Anderson finally came out victorious. I think if I remember correctly, the last set went to about 23-21 or something ridiculous like that. The match between Nadal and Djokovic was the first tennis match that Sarah really has had the chance to see. It pulled out all the stops and answered whatever questions about tennis that Sarah had. Well, we woke up early to see the result the next morning, and guess who came out victorious: Djokovic. I wanted Rafa to win but oh well. So, today's final, which I haven't seen yet, is/was between Djokovic and Anderson. Anderson is the guy that beat Federer in the quarters.
Also, Saturday was the first ever soccer game that Sarah watched. It was the third place World Cup game of Belgium vs England. Of course, Sarah wore my Peru soccer jersey, and I had to wear Argentina's (for no good important reason). We missed the first goal, which happened in the first 5 minutes. Belgium came out victorious against the English 2-0. Really, it was so early in the morning that I was falling asleep throughout. Jesus came over to watch with us, and mom watched too. They invited us to Nogales for some Nogales Breakfast burritos. Boy were they amazing. And I was awake for them as well. We came back home and talked a lot more about food, since I wanted the recipe for Lomo Saltado, and Sarah had questions about Causa, Papa Relleno, and Papa a la Huancaina. Needless to say, we will be cooking Peruvian really soon. The World Cup Final was also today. Since it's Sunday, we didn't watch it as well, so I'll hopefully be able to see if Croatia beat France soundly in the skirmish.
This evening we went to a fireside dedicated to the Millers, President Todd and Kim Miller who served in the Boston Massachusetts Mission as mission president. It was pretty cool to hear them speak. But what was really nice was saying hello to Sister Miller. Her eyes lit up and she gave me a big hug and I introduced Sarah to her. I praised her for her wonderful teaching as my seminary teacher and she said she was the one that really got taught then. We also saw the Harris' and had a nice chat with them. We talked radio and microwaves and Mister Rogers movie documentary and we even scheduled a time to have dinner with them in two weeks.
We spent the rest of Saturday planning our packing schedule and making a list of stuff and looking at Uhauls and things. We decided after prayer, that we are going to get a storage unit here for $1 the first month. It works out really well that way, in that at the end of August we will have better resources for the move. It's been nice discussing these things, as Sarah has a lot of good input, and we work together really well in planning. The hours of previous missionary planning we did really paid off in the long run.
For Friday date night, we went to the Chinese Restaurant by our house and went next door to Mikel's Donuts and Subs and got a ice cream filled donut (as suggested by the owner of the restaurant). We then went to see Incredibles 2. What's funny about that movie is they have a warning label at the beginning of the movie that warns that some images may cause seizures due to the way they portray light from from the villain in the movie. It was pretty good. Got a picture in front of the movie poster. This was the last of our tickets so from now on we will probably be paying our own way.
We had decided to go visit Sarah's dad on Thursday and do a walkabout the temple. We invited him out to eat with us. We had a coupon for Papa John's pizza, so we picked him up, took him to the post office to send some of his mail, then picked up the pizza. Well, he's been having some memory problems, so he suddenly remembered that he was suppose to meet the missionaries at the temple that night. So, we dropped him off, went into the Redlands Stake Center and sat in the back foier, propped the two boxes of pizza on a small trash can and begun eating. We got barbecue pizza with chicken and onions, and pizza with pepperoni and sausage. The condiments of peppers and parmesan were good. But they even added something they called "special seasoning." Well, whatever the blend of spices they put in their was so good (and potent). Also, they provided garlic sauce, which helped with the crust. We ate until Arno came, and then watched him eat while I tried to juggle plastic bottles full of water at Sarah's request. On one wall of the stake center, they have 4 pictures hanging up, one of Moses, and two of Samuel, and another one I can't remember. A little over the top. Then we walked around the temple and took some pictures together. It was definitely a good time, and a time for reminiscing.
We are planning on a trip to Rexburg next weekend. We will be leaving Friday afternoon, staying at Granny's, then Saturday making the trip up to Idaho, picking up Sarah on the way, staying at Sarah's friend's house, and then the baby blessing Sunday morning, with a luncheon, and driving back that day to Granny's, dropping Sarah off in Provo. Driving back home Monday morning through the afternoon, quick and fast trip, but it'll definitely be worth it.
I had to tell each of the Guillen kids that I'm moving away. It was a bittersweet moment.
For young mens this week, we had a pool party. It was uber fun. We played two games of water polo. The first was nice, because I was in the shallow end and I was goalie. Well, second game we played I stuck to the wall with a momentary outburst of dashing (in water) for the ball as to prevent a goal on our team. It was fun, but I was super tired and I almost died several times, coughing up a lung. Needless to say, our team lost the two games to 5 that we played. Also, my right wrist has been hurting from sticking to the wall most of the game.
I had a phone interview with Lauren's Institute For Education (LIFE) on Tuesday morning. It went super well, as I had stuff prepared to say on a google doc. I have a face to face interview on Wednesday morning of this next week. I will also be getting fingerprint's done. So yeah, I'm going to Arizona this Tuesday morning and staying with Aunt Kerry. Also, Aunt Kerry said I could stay with them the month of August as we prepare for job interviews, etc. Sarah got the okay from her former housemate Shaunna Lee. She's going to be staying with her during August.
Also, that morning, Dad invited me to watch soccer with him and mom. We had some really good chicken that Dad had seasoned and that mom had fried, with mashed potatoes and corn. It turned out really good and fun.
Well, I hope you are doing good. Drop me a line when you have the chance.
Love you, brother,
John
