Dear Jacob,
Well, it's been an interesting week.
For Family Home Evening, Sarah and I got to go watch Avengers: Infinity War at AMC in Ontario Mills. I know, you're probably like, where do you get all the money, but Sarah had won/earned 2 free tickets to AMC. It was a good experience. Of course, since it is newly out, it was booking up fast, so Sarah went to the mall before it started and got us two seats in the back of the theater. Let me tell you, this movie has done what no other Marvel movie has done. I'm not going to tell you what, though, because of spoilers. We got to take pictures in front of the sign. We also took pictures in front of the Solo star wars sign. So, all in all, good trip. We learned later that dad got us Viva Villa tortas that day, but since we were in the theaters, they ate them all up, haha. I can't wait til you come back and you and I sit down and watch the newest flicks. Except, when you return, Avengers 4 will have just come out (2 months before), so any cliffhangers that were in the previous movie will be answered, lucky duck.
Our ward is having a Dia de las Madres, Diad de los Padres festival next Saturday that everyone is going crazy about. Dances here, performances there, and singing and playing instruments. I was asked to be in three dances, but I got out of two of them. One of them is a dance to "Do you Love Me," that the youth are doing and we've practiced the last two weeks and next Wednesday is our last rehearsal. Sister Mondragon asked me to stand in front and lead the dance, can you believe it. I was already tired from playing Knock Out basketball with the boys, so I was super sweaty even before. I'm just glad I didn't get anxious this time. But it's funny that she would ask me to lead in something that we had learned the week previous and in a skill I am only mediocre in.
Also, Luis Guillen (who's 13), Vivi Guillen, and I are doing a guitar and solo performance at this thing as well. On Tuesday, Luis taught me the riff and chords to the song "We Belong Together" by Ritchie Valens. All the performances are from like the 50s or 60s or hippy times. The song reminds me of the song Earth Angel from Back to the Future, and every time I play it, it makes me want to sing that song. I've had Earth Angel stuck in my head for the longest time this week.
Speaking of Back to the Future, Sarah's only seen it once a long time ago, so on a car ride home from LA on Wednesday, I told her everything I could remember about what happened in the movie. I even described the opening scene to a tee. I'm sure we'll watch it one of these days. We were also able to watch Coco for the second time last Sunday with Sarah's friend Jonathan, who had been staying at our place while Erica, his wife, had been in the mental hospital. That movie never fails to amaze me. Even Jonathan was like, that is a movie for the ages and that it spoke to him on a spiritual level. Erica was released from the mental hospital on Wednesday, and she seemed pretty normal. We haven't received any distress calls since then, so things must be going well for them. Even though we like having company over, it was nice to have the house to ourselves on Thursday and ever since. We took Thursday to de-stress and relax our cares away, haha.
I got out of the two other dances though, one because Sarah's ankle has been hurting and the other because I told Sister Garcia I didn't want to do more than two dances, this one being a flash mob dance, I don't really know how it is going to be. Honestly, I don't know too much about this activity, and I hate not knowing or being clued in to how everything is going to work until the day of. That just doesn't float my boat the unorganized-ness of the whole affair. And secondly, I'll be glad when it is all over. I really do hope I perform the guitar stuff alright and that I don't mess up. I've been practicing a lot because Luis taught me the riff on Tuesday. Then, not even 24 hours later, he expected me to know the riff all the way through, and I disappointed him, not having practiced a wink. Fortunately, I know chords really well, so I played those without a hitch. But, since then I've learned most of the riff. They wanted to practice on Friday, but I said no, because of date night of course.
For date night, we went to Walmart and walked around just being silly and mentioning stuff we liked or disliked. We also got ourselves a money order for rent that was due. It was funny, there was a long line, but I didn't want to get out of line because I swore there would still be a long line later. Sarah said there wouldn't, so we walked around the store instead, and I was wrong and Sarah was right, the line was like 2 people long.
I finished one batch of Self-reliance classes today (in the Rancho stake) only to start another wave of classes tonight in Fontana (since we were asked to be facilitators). This will be my third wave, and honestly, it doesn't seem like I'll be rid of them any time soon. The nice thing is this one I'll do with my wife, and we get to do it in Spanish. We're going to start the 20th, on Sunday at 3pm in the Randall building (since most of the participants were from Randall, including their Bishop). And we're doing the Personal Finances class again. It'll be great to go over those things again, and this time married (because before we were only engaged, but we did learn a lot).
Work was just work this week. Some days were hot, and some days were cold. The weather was just a bit sporadic this week, ending in one of the hottest days we have had this year today and yesterday. There was something called Heritage Day on Saturday, but we didn't go to it. It wasn't in Fontana, it was more out in Redlands area. Also, we noticed that Jurupa Vista was having a carnival yesterday as well, but we decided to stay home instead. We had a pretty laid back Saturday and Thursday. We do have Father's and Sons this weekend, but I don't know if I'm going to go since it is up in Big Bear. We'll see.
All in all, good week, and I look forward to this next week. I really look forward to the week after that, because all five days I am in a SDC class in either Jurupa Vista or Lewis Elementary.
Also, next week is Mothers Day! Which means we get to hear from you. We'll be going to Mom's and Dad's house with our computers. We look forward to talking with you.
Have a good week and we love you!
Love,
John
