4/1 Letter #62

Hi Jacob!

Busy week, for me, and I'm sure for you. Really, busy weekend, obviously.

This week was the last week of spring break for me. I know, I know, I'm lucky enough to get two weeks of spring break.

Tuesday was Sarah's birthday. Mom and Dad had us over Monday night for a "Leftover Dinner." We had leftover estofado, fried rice, fried chicken, macaroni salad, and dad even cooked some meat. What he didn't tell us until it was too late for me was that the meat was going bad. I had eaten the whole thing. He saved everything else. It was good anyways and I didn't get sick. We spent the night talking and they got Sarah a nice chocolate bundt cake with frosting on it and we put four candles on it and sang Happy Birthday to her. It was really nice. They gave her a card with the name "Trefflich" on it and it had a nice note and two gift cards to Miguels. It was really great and we had a good time with them. We even talked about Seinfeld and King of Queens until the rooster crowed. Okay, not that long, but it was fun reminiscing about old well-loved Seinfeld episodes. Dad was really getting animated.

Sarah's birthday, which was on Tuesday was really fun. We started by getting up and going to Denny's for a free Grand Slam. It was so good, it even outdid Wimbledon. No, we, got eggs, hash browns, two sausage, and two bacon. We didn't get pancakes, because we wanted to go to IHOP to get them. Unfortunately, you had to register before the day of the birthday. Yeah, Sarah wanted to go to all the places we could to get free food. We tried Subway, but Sarah accidentally signed up online for a subway in Australia or something. We went to Baskin Robbins, but the girl wasn't going to give us a free cup of ice cream without a barcode. However, we stayed in the shop so long looking at ice cream cakes and stuff, that the girl behind the counter took pity on us and gave Sarah a cup of her pick of ice cream. She picked one with coconut. It was good.

Later, Sarah's dad asked us if we wanted to go out for lunch. He had a gift card for Olive Garden. So we met him at an Olive Garden on Hospitality Lane. It was nice of him to treat us. Sarah got this chicken dish, and I got the never ending spaghetti. Arno just got the Salad and asked us for a bite of each of our dishes. We did share a 3 part appetizer of fried zucchini, breaded lasagna, and calamari. Then for Sarah's birthday she got an apple pie sorta thing. All of it was extremely good.

While we were at Olive Garden, Sarah's sister called me while we were eating. Her sister lives in Idaho. She asked me for our address and to not tell Sarah that they were getting her some kinda food to be delivered. I said okay and gave them the information. Well, at seven that night, Dominos delivered a pineapple and ham pizza and two lava mini chocolate cakes. Of course it was good. All of it. And Sarah was well pampered for her birthday. It was nice to celebrate a birthday with my wife.

Well, it was good, because Friday night, I got the recommended amount of sleep I needed. I was able to endure all six hours of Saturday conference, thankfully. Sunday was a different story. We watched the first session on the internet at our house. Then, Sarah's Aunt Carol and Uncle Al invited us over to watch the second session and have dinner with them. We got there right in time to watch it. They live in Murrieta. They also had a son and daughter and her husband and their five children come over. I couldn't last through all the talks. On Saturday, after the EQ and HP news, I tried to get dad to talk to him about it, like six times, but he wouldn't answer. I finally talked to him about it today. I think all the changes are innovative. To tell you the real truth, I never really understood stuff about becoming a High Priest or it's quorum. That and "Ministering" is the new cool thing to do.

Dinner was great. Also, I played RISK with the youngest son named Gavin. He totally schooled me at it. I was getting sweaty, so I wanted to end it fast...besides dinner was being served. After dinner, I talked to Sarah's uncle and he told me he use to play the guitar but no longer does it. He told me I could get his guitar, so I got it and tuned it up. We sang Hallelujah, but it still wasn't totally tuned. I tuned it up some more, and we sang several children hymns, like I'm a Child of God, Give Said the Little Stream, and A Child's Prayer. I guess I was banging on the guitar so much, and right at the end of the song, his A-string broke. I felt somewhat bad. But at least it wasn't the G-string, which is the string I always break on other guitars. I kept on tailing Sarah as I was tuning it that I felt like I would break one of the strings.

Funny thing. When Elder Bednar was giving his talk, you know, where he wanted you to guess the attribute of Christ that he was talking about, Sarah said it was humility, but I hit it right on the nose before he announced that he was talking about meekness. I acted meekly when I found out I was right, not rubbing it in Sarah's face, but later that night I was like, told you it was meekness.

Sarah has three more episodes of the Flash Season 4 and she's caught up. YAY!

For date night this week, we went to a Ward Sealing at 7pm. It was nice and it was another Hermano's first time. The sealer was great. Obispo Garcia and his wife made it. They actually texted  us to come. Hermano Olguin was the one who asked us if we could. Sarah and I went to stand and be with each other in the sealing room that we got sealed in and then we sat and talked in the Celestial Room, and prayed.

Lastly, I think dad is going to win the Bracket Challenge with Mom in second. They invited us over to watch the game tomorrow. We look forward to going.

Anyways. Hope you are doing well. We love you and wish you the best.

Send me a line if you get a chance to.

Love,
John
